In May 2017 he and Mercy Aigbe volunteered as the faces of the Felix King Foundation's campaign against the maltreatment of widows, a cause that had no obvious political reward. It became the signature of his giving. DOE Support for Widows, named for his initials, is run from the constituency office and brings widows together each January for cash support, food and companionship. In January 2024 some seven hundred women took part.
